Blue Sky Homes are build using components from Blue Sky Building Systems™. The core of the building is comprised of the the Blue Sky Frame™, which enables homes to be built on steeply sloped land in a more cost effective and environmentally friendly manner that traditional slab on grade building methods. The Blue Sky Frame leverages a bi-directional moment frame made of light gauge cold rolled steel. The System allows homes to be floated above challenging topography, supported by a minimal number of tube steel columns. For example, a typical 1,500 square foot house built with the Blue Sky Frame will require 8 to 12 columns and caissons, and have a total footprint of sixteen to twenty-four square feet in the ground, with no additional grading, site work, or foundation. In the same location, a traditional slab on grade building would require significant foundation work, retaining walls, grade beams, drainage systems, and earth moving.
On a steeply sloped lot the Blue Sky Frame reduces or eliminates the need for:
- Extensive earth moving to create a flat topography for a foundation
- Trucking away removed materials, or trucking in fill
- Expensive stem or retaining walls
- Large numbers of caissons to create a solid foundation
- Concrete Slabs
- Grade Beams
- Drainage and weeping systems around the foundation
- Significantly reduces site work, labor and materials
In case studies, the Blue Sky Frame has been shown to reduce the cost of building a home by up to 20%, while also being significantly faster, producing less waste, and resulting in a stronger and more durable home.
